The Office of the Federal Public Prosecutor protects our democratic order by prosecuting terrorist criminal acts. The focus of the Terrorism department is on far-right terrorism, far-left terrorism and Islamist-motivated terrorism.

The Federal Republic of Germany is a constant target of foreign intelligence services. The Office of the Federal Prosecutor protects the interests of the state, its institutions and citizens and the fulfilment of international obligations.

The most serious crimes, such as genocide and crimes against humanity, must not go unpunished. The Office of the Federal Prosecutor meets this international obligation by prosecuting crimes under the German International Criminal Code.

The Office of the Federal Prosecutor takes on the role of state prosecutor in appeals proceedings before the criminal divisions of the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe and Leipzig. It thus contributes to the continued development of criminal and criminal trial law in the Federal Republic of Germany.
