Arrest of a Suspected Member of the Foreign Terrorist Organisation ‘Islamic State’
Yesterday (20 January 2025), the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office had agents of the North Rhine-Westphalian State Criminal Police Office arrest the Syrian national

in Monheim am Rhein in execution of an arrest warrant issued by the Investigating Judge at the Federal Court of Justice on 16 January 2025.
The arrested individual is strongly suspected of memberhip in a foreign terrorist organisation (section 129a para. 1 no. 1, section 129b para. 1 sentences 1 and 2 of the German Criminal Code).
In essence, the arrest warrant sets out the following facts:
In August, 2014, Ahmad A. joined the foreign terrorist organisation ‘Islamic State’ in Syria as a member. In the spring of 2015, he, in concert with other fighters, was part of an armed patrol in the Deir ez-Zor area, Syria, which had been conquered by the Islamic State.
Today, the suspect was brought before the Investigating Judge at the Federal Court of Justice who read out the arrest warrant to him and ordered that he be placed in pre-trial detention.
